Prepaid, Or Pay As You Go Cell Phone Plans, Which Is Best?

November 21st, 2010 Filed under: Cell Phones — Cell Phone Author

When people look for a prepaid cell phone plan, they most commonly do it for one of two reasons, to lower their monthly spending in cell phone service, or they just don’t have a good enough credit rating to get around an insanely high deposit for a regular plan. Prepaid cellular provides options for both above mentioned scenarios, but there are differences in prepaid plans, and knowing them can make your monthly spending more manageable.

Pay as you go, is a type of prepaid cellular plan that lets you pay for calling time, or minutes in advance, either with a credit card, or a prepaid refill card which can be purchased online, or a local retail store. Pay as you go cell phone plans are best for those of you who need a cell phone, but will rarely use it. The cent per minute charge is pretty high in most cases, but overall, if you used only 10 dollars in calling during a month, pay as you go is your best option because that’s all you pay, and it lowers your bill.

Monthly prepaid plans allow you to pay in advance, once a month for cell phone service that works much like a regular plan with features like, free nights and weekends, free mobile to mobile, and a good amount of anytime minutes. Prepaid plans are great if you want, or need a monthly cellular plan, but have bad credit. Prepaid service can also save you money since you cannot go over your minutes each month. You can even get top of the line cell phones, including the Motorola RAZR for prepaid.

I dumped my contract and went prepaid with Tracfone to save money and ended up saving much, much more than I thought I would and paid off my credit card! The double the minutes you pay for and the free incoming texts made a huge difference to my cell phone costs and I get terrific coverage all over the US! I will never have a contract again and I just wish I’d gone with Tracfone years ago!

I definitely think prepaid is your best bet. Especially when there are Straight Talk prepaid cell phones out there. I got one a few months ago after watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSOSQ8q0CV0 and I decided to try it out. I am in love. Such a great deal. I’m getting them for my best friends fro the holidays.
